Congratulations to U6 pupils, Abi Richardson and Olivia Purvis who have recently completed their Gold Awards, and who received their badges at prize giving last week. They will receive their certificates at a Royal Palace in the next few months.
This term has been busy for all those involved in DofE. For the Bronze groups there have been weekly after school training sessions, including learning about kit and packing rucksacks, food and cooking on an expedition, emergency procedures and thinking about possible aims for the expedition. This culminated in a training and planning day on Saturday, where they learned first aid, map and compass skills, pitched tents, cooked lunch on trangias and planned routes ready for their practice expedition at the end of September. The Silver groups have recently completed their practice expedition in the Black Mountains on the hottest weekend of the year! Although there were navigational errors, all groups completed their routes in good spirits and they coped remarkably well with the excessive heat. In the last couple of weeks they have been planning routes for their next expedition to Exmoor in September. Also a group of 4 girls in the L6 have planned their Gold expedition to Dartmoor and we hope that they have good weather for this next week.
The summer holidays is a good opportunity for all participants to add evidence to their eDofE accounts and to complete some of the sections of their award, particularly the Year 9s who need to have at least two sections signed off, within eDofE, before the expedition in September.
