OLA Alumna Joan Pikes
Thursday 15th June

OLA was recently contacted by a lady who was trying to find out information on whether her mother and uncle had attended OLA (or Our Lady’s Convent as it was then known) in the late 1920s and 1930s. Joan and Peter Carter were indeed both pupils here and we were delighted to be able to provide photographs and other snippets of their education record from some 88 years ago. Both Joan and Peter were boarders as their parents were living and working in India. Joan is now 95 and lives in Australia. Joan met her husband during the war and was married for 72 years and had three children. They lived in England, Czechoslovakia, Kenya, South Africa and Australia. Joan now has 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Sadly Peter Carter died aged 21 in Italy during the war, and we know how much it has meant to Joan and her family to be able to see the school photographs of Peter. Our grateful thanks to Sister Monica for her help in finding archives at Bermondsey.

We are pleased to be able to share some of the photographs here, including one of Joan now. Joan is a very special alumna and we hope very much to stay in touch.
