It's that time of year again - the cricket whites are out and we can enjoy the sound of leather on willow. OLA's cricketers have made a great start to their season with two early wins. Notable performances from Yassar, Alex, Freddie and Louis in the U14/15 v Sibford, and from our batsmen Ashley, Ollie, Jamie and Gabriel in the U13 v Shiplake College.
Full match reports from Mr Barnett are below.
U12 and U13 v Kingham Hill – Tuesday, May 2nd
Well done to both the U12 and U13 cricket teams who enjoyed two close matches with Kingham Hill. The U13s lost by 8 runs and there were some very encouraging performances both with the bat and ball. Ollie Armstrong was the pick of the bowlers, supported by several team members. Kingham scored 128 runs off their 16 overs leaving OLA with the difficult task of scoring 8 runs per over. Ollie Armstrong and Ashley Hillier started the run chase very well indeed and were well over the run rate. Ashley Hillier eventually got out on 29 runs and was superbly supported by Ollie Armstrong (22). OLA then fell behind on the run rate and eventually losing by 8 runs. The U12s enjoyed what was for many of them their first cricket fixture. Despite this narrow defeat, they all gave their best and competed admirably throughout. Well done to all the U12 and 13 cricket teams.
U15/14 v Sibford – Thursday, May 4th
OLA put Sibford into bat and bowled and fielded extremely well to restrict the visitors to 65 runs. Yassar Sohail (3 wkts) and Alex Reeve (2 wkts) were the pick of the bowlers and were ably supported by Fred Fishleigh and Louis Davies. OLA made a good start to their batting innings with Yassar (10 runs) and Louis (16 runs) playing aggressively from the start. OLA managed to win with 2 overs to spare and 5 wickets in hand. Congratulations boys on a great game.
U13 v Shiplake Tuesday, May 9th
The U13 team bowled very well and restricted Shiplake to 74 runs off 16 overs. Several members of the team bowled and it was a very good performance in the field. With Ashley Hillier and Ollie Armstrong opening the batting OLA started the run chase in a very positive manner. Ashley was caught for 11 and Ollie retired on 23 runs. Jamie Lovejoy then came into bat with Gabriel Popham-Coveley and between them they chased down the winning runs with 5 overs to spare and 9 wickets in hand. A very good all round team performance.
