OLA pupils learn about the National Citizen Service
Thursday 9th March
Senior School Events

Jon and Rowan from the National Citizen Service (NCS) visited OLA last Friday to speak to the whole of Year 11 and the Lower Sixth about some exciting opportunities available to them this summer at the knockdown price of £35! NCS is open to all 16 and 17-year-olds in England, helping them to build their skills for work and life, while taking on new challenges and meeting new friends. The programme involves a short time away from home, taking part in a team project aimed at helping the Oxfordshire community.

NCS brings together young people from different backgrounds and helps them develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility. It encourages personal and social development by working on skills like leadership, teamwork and communication. Participants develop a social action project to deal with a local issue they’re passionate about, and spend 30 hours putting the project into action in their community. Not only is this enriching in itself, but it is a great thing to put on UCAS forms and CVs! We very much hope that some of our students will sign up for this year's project, as others have done in the past.
