Two Sixth Formers at OLA were thrilled last week to receive offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge. Sam Hoskin, Head Boy at OLA, has secured a place at Jesus College, Oxford to read Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE), while Olivia Purvis will go to Girton College, Cambridge to study English.
Sam's success is all the more noteworthy as he is a visually impaired student who has studied his A Level subjects using Braille. On hearing he had achieved a place, Sam said: 'I am surprised but also delighted. To gain a place at Oxford is the fulfilment of a longstanding ambition'.
Olivia commented: 'This is particularly special for me as Vietnamese, not English, is my first language. To study English at Cambridge will be an amazing experience.'
OLA's Principal, Stephen Oliver, paid tribute to the students' achievement: 'A huge amount of hard work has gone into Olivia and Sam's success, as has the dedicated help they have received from all their teachers. I am proud of what they and the school have achieved and wish them well for their exams. I cannot think of two more deserving students.'
