The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a very popular activity at OLA. Pupils are able to start the bronze award in Year 9 and then continue on to the silver and
gold award. Several students in the Sixth Form manage to complete their gold award before they leave school.
A wide range of interests are pursued as part of the Award as pupils learn new skills or develop existing ones and also do some volunteering within the
community. Expeditions form an important element of the Scheme and these are done both locally and in places further afield including the Black Mountains,
Exmoor, North York Moors and the Lake District. Some students have also managed to complete their expedition for the gold award in more adventurous
activities abroad, including Kenya and Nepal.
