The pupils at OLA are actively encouraged to help those less fortunate than they are. Through the PSHE and RE curriculum, the children understand the importance of giving to others, both in the UK and around the world.
Throughout the year the school supports a number of charities. As well as supporting specific fundraising causes, we also give to several charities on a regular basis, including CAFOD, St. Vincent's School for the Blind, Blue Peter Appeal, Holy Childhood, The Diocesan's Children's Trust, The Children's Society, Save the Children and many more.
We are currently supporting a girl in Uganda with school fees and other associated costs. The children often write to her and in return we receive regular letters, updates and school reports.
The children, through the School Council, often organise various fundraising events such as cake sales, non-uniform days, raffles and collections. In Year 6 the pupils organise an annual charity effort which involves car washing, running various stalls and games.
The proceeds of all fundraising are often divided between children’s charities of the pupils’ choice.
We bi-annually support the work of the NSPCC and in 2013 the school raised £2,000 for this very worthy cause.
